Mattana
Mattana is a multi-instrumentalist hailing from London, bringing dance music from around the world to her eclectic sets. Mattana is a strong believer in the power of music to unite and break down cultural boundaries, with her DJ sets reflecting her global influences.
Primarily combining Afro, Latin and Caribbean beats, she has become a renowned selector in the London bar & club scene, playing regularly at Brixton Hootenanny and the Jago, and festivals such as Boomtown Festival, Tropical Pressure and LoveJam, and was invited to play with Black Kings Entertainment at Kupe Århus, Denmark.
She started DJing in 2015, learning from Andromeda within the Southbank Centres’s Scratch Collective, with her debut gig at the Women of the World Festival. She is a resident DJ with queer & feminist nights Party In Your Pants and Quench, and regularly plays at Popola, Pinky Promise, Dalston Superstore, Union Vauxhall and other legendary queer nights in London.
Having formerly hosted a monthly radio show on Aaja Radio for two years, she now hosts a monthly b2b show, Radio Pow Pow as part of DJ duo MattaMinor with G Minor, on Patchouli Deep (previously on NRBC). She is also a regular collaborator with Movimientos, Samedia Shebeen and Village Cuts.
She was at the forefront of the online rave scene, playing for a range of online parties such as Morning Gloryville, Midnight Ritual and SK Shlomo’s BST Rave, as well as for online festivals such as Burning Man and Nowhere Festival.
Her music style is characterised by an upbeat infectious energy that runs throughout her sets, which she enjoys bringing to dancefloors as well as to community spaces, and using the power of music to bring joy and unite communities, including in her advocacy work. She runs events and retreats for womxn, and also regularly DJs for events & organisations close to her heart, including a range of feminist, POGM-centred and queer events such as Smut Slam Europe, Newham LGBT History Month and the Cocoa Butter Club’s Wellbeing Day.
Otherworld
Recognising that the mainstream nightlife world can often be an alienating and overwhelming place, particularly for neurodivergent people (herself included!), Mattana launched Otherworld, a queer night for neurodivergent people and their pals. Using extensive feedback from the community to inform the night, this space of playful delights has sensory safety and joyful exploration at the heart of it.
